Never conflate management with leadership!

… it wastes all of your time & money, and annoys the children.

The difference is easy to spot. A manager tells you what to do, but a leader inspires you into self motivated action. A manager follows a textbook from the past, or hires an experienced management consultant; a leader creates a compelling vision for sustainable prosperity for future generations.

Lao Tsu has just about the best definition for leadership I have ever come across, and aspired to use myself…

“A superior leader keeps informed about everything, but doesn’t interfere. And although things would not be done as good when he wasn’t there, when the people succeed, he takes no credit, so credit never leaves him. (M/F)”.

Just beautiful.
